Ayurveda is the ancient medical science originating over 5,000 years ago in India which stems from the Sanskrit words “ayur” meaning “life” and “veda” meaning knowledge. Ayurveda is a sister philosophy to Yoga as both have been developed by the ancient sages of India to help individuals achieve their highest and healthiest selves. Traditionally in India the systems of thought are taught together, as was intended by the ancient sages.
According to the teachings of Ayurveda, the goal of perfect health and vitality can be achieved through connecting the mind and body, and that the physical, psychological, philosophical and spiritual aspects of an individual must be cared for equally to promote lifelong health and wellbeing.
Given the holistic sophistication of Ayurveda’s approach to health management and healing, the system offers both preventative as well as curative principles of healing, tailored to the specific individual’s unique constitution i.e. “doshas” (prakriti).
Thousands of people embark on health focussed retreats in India to partake in Ayurvedic Panchakarma, which is a series of Ayurvedic treatments becoming internationally renowned for helping people to detoxify and rejuvenate their health.
